Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a powerful prevention tool against HIV infection for those at high risk for HIV. It implies taking antiretroviral drug(Tenofovir/Emtricitabine 300/200 mg) and significantly reduces the risk of getting HIV. However, it does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections and consequently, it should be combined with other preventive measures.

The drug used for PrEP has been proven effective and safe in multiple studies. It is very easy to administer: just one pill a day!

Currently PrEP program is being conducted by Georgian AIDS Center and NGO “Equality Movement” for men having sex with men (MSM). The drug and other medical and social through PrEP are free of charge for beneficiaries.

230 persons were enrolled in PrEP as of September 1, 2019. The program is open for those at high risk for HIV.

The confidentiality of participants is protected!
